Bay Area Rapper's Murder, Tour Bus Crash And Officer-Involved Shootings Top 2015 Bay Area Stories

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS-SF) – The clock is ticking toward the end of 2015 – a year when UC President Janet Napolitano forgot to turn off her mike, East Bay rapper "The Jacka" was a homicide victim, a heated debate over officer-involved shootings boiled over and an out-of-control tour bus slammed into a construction site near Union Square.

The Day The Music Died
On Feb. 2, East Bay rapper "The Jacka" was gunned down in Oakland and 94th Ave. There was an outpouring of emotion from his fans and as the year came to an end, his murder remains unsolved.

Officer-Involved Shootings
The death of Mario Woods in a San Francisco officer-involved shooting led to protests and demands for the firing of police chief Greg Suhr. Nearly a week didn't pass all year when there wasn't an officer or deputy-involved shooting somewhere in the Bay Area leading to a debate over the use of deadly force.

Tour Bus Crashes Near Union Square

As the City Sightseeing bus careened down Post Street, sideswiping cars and dragging a bicyclist, perhaps no one was more terrified than the driver, who said he had lost control of the bus, which finally crashed to a stop in scaffolding in Union Square. A total of 20 people were injured in the crash on November 13th. The driver, who suffered a broken back, said he thought the brakes had failed.

Napolitano Says 'We Don't Have To Listen To This Crap'

University of California President Janet Napolitano remarked to a fellow regent that they "didn't have to listen to this crap" as underwear-clad protesters denounced potential tuition hikes during a trustees meeting in San Francisco. She later apologized for the remark.

Saint Mary's Cathedral Drenches Homeless With Water To Keep Them Away

In an award-winning series of reports, KCBS reported on St. Mary's Cathedral, the principal church of the Archdiocese of San Francisco, installing a watering system to keep the homeless from sleeping in the cathedral's doorways. After the reports, the Archdiocese dismantled the watering system and offered an apology.

The last thing Richard Williams expected when he started doing chores in the garage of his Novato home the day after Thanksgiving was that he would soon be in a life-and-death battle with a crazed squirrel. Marin officials believe the squirrel was injured in the attack and died. There have been no squirrel attacks since Richard Williams was attacked in his garage.

An 11-year-old boy received three degrees to became the youngest graduate at American River College in 2015. Tanishq Abraham graduated from high school at age 10, and now has his sights set on a medical degree.

El Niño Cometh

The final months of 2015 were filled with stories focusing on El Niño and the wet winter that was set to arrive in the Bay Area early 2016. New satellite photos released on Dec. 29th show the waters of the Pacific are getting warmer and the conditions for a strong El Niño aren't showing any signs of weakening.

Rich And Famous Lead Lists Of Top Water Users

San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey, Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil, 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov,Oakland A's executive Billy Beane and former Olympic figure skater Kristi Yamaguchi were among those cited as water wasters by the East Bay Municipal Utility District during the year of drought.
