Bay Area Fishermen Report Strong Start To Salmon Season

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Reports from sport salmon fishermen are positive after the Easter holiday weekend, which also marked the opening weekend of the 2012 fishing season.

The reports are especially welcome news after the string of fairly poor fishing seasons in the recent past.

"(We heard from) two boats out of Sausalito, I got a report that one of 'em did get limits of fish and the other one got really close to limits," said Skipper John Dresser of the Wacky Jacky, out of San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. "It's phenomenal, I'm so happy and I'm still on a high...from being able to see that again after probably six, seven years of really poor fishing and low numbers."

The "limit" is defined as two salmon per angler.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

"We started out up north, we didn't find any fish but by the time we went down south, about ten miles out of Half Moon Bay, we found a nice little school of fish that bit fairly well. We didn't have a long time to fish because we had to get back, but we had about a fish a rod and they were all stuffed full of krill," said Dresser. "It looks like it's going to be a phenomenal year."
