Arrest Made In Santa Clara 'Church Man' Murder Case

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- Santa Clara police on Friday announced the arrest of a suspect in the murder of local resident Luis Tavara, 62, also known as "The Church Man" because of his faith.

When police responded to the 3400 block of Lafayette Street on Thursday, May 12, around 6 a.m. they found Tavara bleeding. He was pronounced dead shortly after, according to the Santa Clara Police Department.

On Thursday, May 19, police say they arrested 24-year-old Jairon Massella of Santa Clara and booked him without incident on charges of murder and probation violation.

Massella's arraignment is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 in Santa Clara County Superior Court.
