Armed Parolee Arrested, Pit Bull Shot Dead After Santa Clara Search
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) - A search for a parolee considered armed and dangerous led to a shelter-in-place order in a Santa Clara neighborhood Thursday morning before the man was captured, according to Santa Clara Police.
During the police action, a pit bull dog was shot dead by an officer after it lunged at them, according to police.
27-year-old James Joshua Benson was being sought in the area of Machado Park on the 3300 block of Cabrillo Ave. in Santa Clara Thursday morning, police said.
A domestic violence complaint around 4:40 a.m. prompted the search for Benson, Santa Clara police Lt. Wahid Kazem said.
Officers set up a quarter-mile perimeter in the neighborhood during the search.
Benson was located at a home on Santa Rosa Court where he surrendered around 9:30 a.m., police said. A pit bull who came aggressively at one of the officers on the scene was shot dead.
Kazem said the Benson was on parole for a violent crime.
