AC Transit Fares Creep Up; 1st In Series Of Hikes

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS) - The first in a series of small fare hikes on AC Transit designed to chop away at a $15 million deficit go into effect Monday morning.

The base fare rises 10 cents to $2.10, youth passes are up a nickel and monthly Transbay passes jump from $132 to $151. Passengers will pay another 20 cents or $4.20 for a San Francisco-to-Oakland ride.

"Even though it doesn't seem that much, I'd still rather keep it where it's at," said one young rider.

KCBS' Tim Ryan Reports:

AC Transit has enacted a series of fare hikes through fiscal year 2019, the first of them beginning Monday. These hikes are expected to bring in about $2.5 million in additional revenue a year.
