1 Killed, 2 Hurt In Monterey County Gang-Related Shooting

GREENFIELD (BCN) -- A man was killed and two others were injured in an apparent gang-related shooting Friday night on U.S. Highway 101 in unincorporated Monterey County south of Greenfield, according to the sheriff's office.

The shooting was reported at about 10:30 p.m. Friday on southbound Highway 101 south of Greenfield. Sheriff's deputies, Greenfield police, and California Highway Patrol officers responded to find the three victims inside a blue Chevrolet sedan.

Humberto Cortez Torres, 24, was pronounced dead at the scene while the two other men, ages 22 and 29, were flown to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Both men are expected to survive, according to the sheriff's office.

All three men are King City residents.

Investigators learned the victims were traveling south on Highway 101 when a vehicle approached from behind and at least one person began shooting at them.

No arrests have been made and no information was immediately available about the suspects or the suspect vehicle.

The shooting is being investigated as gang-related, according to the sheriff's office.
