After getting swept in the 1989 World Series by the Oakland Athletics, the San Francisco Giants didn't make it back to the postseason until 1997, and it took five more seasons before they finally made it to the World Series again. In a battle of two wild-card teams, the Giants came so close to winning the series in six games, but a leaky bullpen cost them Game Six—and the Anaheim Angels emerged victorious in Game Seven at home. It was the closest Barry Bonds ever came to winning a ring.
