Monday on The KICKOFF the gang talks about the Sacramento Kings falling two straight games over the weekend and preview their game against the Spurs tonight...
The Raiders let a golden opportunity slip away, as the Steelers marched down the field to kick the game-winning field goal despite not having Ben Roethlisberger under center in culminating seconds.
No Vernon Davis? No problem. No Colin Kaepernick? No problem. No Carlos Hyde? No problem. The San Francisco 49ers started a trio of reserves at key offensive positions, and the team's defense rose to the occasion nicely at home.
A new report says Turlock's Colin Kaepernick is done with the San Francisco 49ers.
Blaine Gabbert threw a pair of second-quarter touchdown passes to Garrett Celek and the undermanned San Francisco 49ers held on to beat the Atlanta Falcons 17-16 on Sunday.
The Pittsburgh Steelers managed to hold steady without Ben Roethlisberger earlier in the season. Now they might have to do it for the long haul.
The Sacramento Kings were unable to stop their slide without DeMarcus Cousins, losing to the Golden State Warriors 103-94 Saturday night at Sleep Train Arena. Sacramento turned in one of the better efforts this year against the defending champs, limiting Golden State to just eight three-pointers on thirty-nine attempts, with Steph Curry connecting on just 2 of 10 from long range. Curry also committed six turnovers, but still finished with a game-high 24 points.
The Sacramento Kings continued to struggle in their third game without All-Star DeMarcus Cousins, falling at home to the Houston Rockets, 116-110. James Harden's 43 points paced the Rockets(3-3), 17 of which came in a second quarter that left the Rockets with an 11-point halftime advantage. Harden also chipped in a game-high 13 assists and made 13-of-16 from the foul line. Clint Capela had a career-high 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks for the Houston. Former King Marcus Thornton scored 16 points in his return to Sacramento.
While coach Jim Tomsula presented the 49ers' quarterback change this week as a chance for benched Colin Kaepernick to get a chance to "breathe," Kaepernick insists he is still preparing as he would a usual week and will support starter Blaine Gabbert on Sunday against Atlanta. After two straight games without a touchdown and three in five not finding the end zone for San Francisco (2-6), Kaepernick refuses to get into the notion he might be a "scapegoat" for a sinking team only three years after he led the Niners to a Super Bowl.
Oakland Raiders defensive end Khalil Mack practiced fully Friday for the first time this week and is expected to play in Sunday's game at Pittsburgh. Mack has been nursing a sore hamstring that sidelined him for one practice and limited him in another. He originally suffered the injury in the second half of Oakland's 34-20 win over the New York Jets last week.
The San Francisco 49ers are going nowhere in 2015, and this week's organizational choices have demonstrated that. Adding more fuel to the "tanking" conversation is the long list of injured players that can't contribute on the field this week against the Atlanta Falcons at home. Six players were unable to workout on Thursday, and that includes key pieces like cornerback Kenneth Acker, wide receiver Anquan Boldin, offensive guard Alex Boone and running back Carlos Hyde.
Even though the Raiders have been playing their best football in decades, going into the Steelers' house is sure to be their toughest test to date, both mentally and physically.
The Oakland Raiders - Pittsburgh Steelers games has a retro feel, as the decades-old rivalry returns.
