Yuba City Teachers Strike Ends After Long Weekend Negotiations

YUBA CITY (CBS13) — Teachers will vote on a new contract that will bring the end of a long battle over contracts.

Monday was the first day teachers were back in Yuba City Unified School District classrooms since the strike began on Sept. 8.

The vote on the new contract is expected at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Contract details will be released publicly following that vote.

Word of a breakthrough in contract talks came early Monday morning after what Yuba City schools Superintendent Nancy Aaberg described as a long negotiating session over the weekend. The deal was reportedly finished at around 5 a.m. on Monday.

The timing made it difficult for the school district to notify teachers that they could come back to their classrooms after the negotiating session spanning from Sunday to early Monday morning.

"We had some communications set up we so we could make sure that everyone would know when we knew. We just didn't know really officially until 5:15 a.m. this morning," Aaberg said.
