Woman Jailed After Alleged Arson In Own Apartment

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- A woman investigators describe as mentally ill has been arrested after allegedly setting fire to her own apartment early Saturday morning, displacing five families.

Marie Williams, 49, allegedly caused extensive damage to her own apartment and two other homes on Dixieanne Avenue after starting the blaze just after 2:00 a.m.

A homeless man spotted the flames and alerted sleeping residents, helping them escape before the fire spread.

"I just happened to turn around and see all the smoke coming out of the apartments, so I ran over and started banging on doors," Leacy Henderson said.

No injuries were reported.

Williams is being held on $150,000 bail for arson to an inhabited structure.
