Woman In Custody After Police Chase, Hostage Standoff
RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a woman led police on a pursuit through a Southern California interstate and then fled into an apartment where she held her grandmother and baby at knifepoint for hours.
The Press-Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/2cuVBEl ) police spotted 26-year-old Brianna A. Duru driving a stolen pickup truck Saturday at about 1:30 a.m. in Riverside.
California Highway Patrol officers followed Duru as she exited Interstate 215 and crashed into an apartment complex gate. Investigators say she then fled into a unit where she held her grandmother and baby hostage.
Duru spoke with a hostage negotiator for three and a half hours, eventually letting her grandmother leave but keeping her baby at knifepoint. She was taken into custody after later dropping the knife.
No one was injured in the standoff.
