SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -– A young woman died Wednesday night after jumping out of a car on the Capitol City Freeway in Sacramento and being hit by three cars, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident happened on the Capitol City Freeway near Exposition Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m.
The 21-year-old woman, identified Thursday as Angel Palmore of Sacramento, was riding in the front passenger seat of a Toyota Corolla driven by Gwenddlyn Gipson, 52, of Turlock, when she opened the door and jumped onto the freeway as the car was traveling about 65 mph. Palmore was traveling from Turlock back to her home in Sacramento and was distraught, according to the CHP.
Palmore landed in the number two lane and was hit by a Mazda Protege, Nissan Altima and Nissan Maxima, causing fatal injuries. The drivers of all three cars stopped at the scene, the CHP said.
Two lanes of the freeway were closed for nearly six hours overnight as officers investigated.
