Woman's Ashes Stolen In Car Burglary
OLIVEHURST, Calif. (CBS13) – A Yuba County woman is asking for the return something irreplaceable that was taken during a burglary: The remains of her mother.
Isela Morales and her sister purchased special silver bracelets sealed with the ashes of their mother, who died in October 2009 from the H1N1 virus, but Isela decided to store her bracelet in her car on the Fourth of July when the clasp became loose.
"I was going to take it to the funeral home where we bought it to see if they could glue it back together, but I hadn't had a chance to do it," Isela said.
Thieves broke into her car, parked outside her Olivehurst home, and stole a number of possessions, including the bracelet.
"I just don't want anyone wearing her, her ashes," Isela added. "If they broke into someone's car, how good can they be? Why should they have the honor of wearing my mom?"
The cross containing the ashes may have fallen off the bracelet, and Isela hopes that anyone who finds either the cross or the bracelet will return it.
Isela said she just wants the heirloom back, no questions asked, and says whoever has it can drop it off at the funeral home, the police department or her front porch.
