USC/Times Poll Finds Support For Brown's Tax Idea

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A new survey finds broad support for Gov. Jerry Brown's proposal to raise tax on high income earners to help fund schools and address California's $9.2 billion budget deficit.

The USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll published Sunday finds that 64 percent of voters surveyed said they supported the measure which Brown hopes to place on the November ballot.

It would temporarily raise the state's sales and income tax on people who make $250,000 or more.

Among those polled, 80 percent of Democrats approve the proposal while just 38 percent of Republicans support it. Three-quarters of independents said they liked his idea.

The poll surveyed 1,500 registered voters between March 14 and 19. The survey has an overall margin of error of 2.9 percentage points.
