Dozens of Shots Fired In South Sacramento; At Least 2 Wounded
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Nearly three dozen shell casings were scattered throughout a strip mall parking lot on Thursday afternoon after two groups, likely rival gangs, started shooting at each other, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.
The incident took place at a strip mall at Stockton Boulevard and Savings Place in South Sacramento. Deputies responded to the scene at about 1:37 p.m. and found about 32 shell casings of various calibers, broken glass and blood.
At about 2 p.m. the sheriff's communication center received word that two men, one 20 and the other 21, had arrived a local hospital with gunshot wounds. One had a gunshot wound to his head and the other to his leg. Both men, whose names weren't released, are expected to survive.
An area school was briefly put on lockdown as deputies searched the area.
A worker in the strip mall said she had just locked her door to use the bathroom when she heard someone banging on her door.
"I have no idea, maybe God saved me," Kemni Chand said of the person not being able to enter. A bullet struck a business next door, she said.
Witnesses said the two groups started arguing before the exchange of gunfire.
