Two Arrested For Breaking Into Safe Credit Union Offices In North Highlands
NORTH HIGHLANDS (CBS13) - Two people were arrested after they allegedly broke into a Safe Credit Union operations center in North Highlands, causing an hours-long SWAT standoff with deputies.
Angelic Gonzales, 41, and Cody Muscarella, 27, were under the influence of a controlled substance when they broke into the business at 3720 Madison Avenue, according to Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesperson Sgt. Jason Ramos.
The two reportedly got inside the business using an object to break the glass on the door, then stayed inside the building for a couple of hours, says Ramos. When the couple refused to surrender to deputies, SWAT team members were called out to the scene. Gonzales reportedly would not come out because, she says, someone was trying to get her.
"We'd be hard-pressed to think that they could be of sound mind to think they could get anything from here financially. It's not open and this is largely an operations center for Safe Credit Union. It's not an active bank," said Sgt. Ramos.
Gonzales and Msucarella were finally arrested on charges of burglary, conspiracy, obstructing/resisting arrest and being under the influence of a controlled substance.
