Threats Force Yuba County Hospital To Lock Down
YUBA CITY, Calif. (CBS13) -- A series of threats has forced a local hospital to tighten security to an unprecedented level and lock down the building every night.
The Fremont Medical Center in Yuba City received a number of threatening phone calls in the past two weeks, and hospital officials have kicked security into high gear while police investigate.
The facility has five security guards on duty now instead one just one, and every night at 5:00 p.m., the entire building goes into lock down until the next morning.
Brittaney Weeks, an expectant mother, says she visits the hospital twice a week for a stress test and ultrasound for her twin babies and has seen a number of changes take effect.
"They won't let us go back and forth, they make us stay inside the room," Brittaney said.
Police say only four calls were reported, but one nurse told CBS13 she heard there were several more. All of the calls were made at night, and in three of them, the suspect told nurses he was watching them as they walked to their cars, according to police.
The hospital says they plan to keep their heightened security in place until an arrest is made.
Police have not identified a suspect.
