Teacher Killed In South Sacramento Home

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Homicide detectives were back out at the crime scene just 24 hours after a young mother was gunned down in her own home.

It happened Thursday night on Tortola Way near Stockton Boulevard.

"I can't even put into words how I'm feeling," said Allene Boulware, who lives down the street.

A community has been left speechless and scared.

"I just heard seven or eight gun shots," said a next door neighbor.

Those bullets pierced through the front of Ariyanna Jones' home, several are still marked with evidence tags.

"All of a sudden here comes a couple of shots and one just takes someone you really care for away from you," he said.

Ariyanna Jones was just 26-years-old, a mother of two, and a beloved preschool teacher at Sacramento Country Day School. Friends said she was also concerned about crime in her neighborhood and helped organize a neighborhood watch.

"She was trying to get the community involved to see what we could do to stop the break-ins that have been happening around the neighborhood," said Boulware.

Police are still searching for a suspect, which has neighbors concerned about the motive. Was this house targeted or a random attack?

"I'm scared, I'm scared for my kids just because earlier this year there's been a lot of stuff going on in this neighborhood," said Blia Cha who also lives on Tortola Way.

But this vicious attack, they said, is by far the worst they've seen and can't imagine the pain it has caused.

"I feel real bad that the two girls and her husband lost their mom and his wife," said Boulware. "I really wish they catch the people who did it."

Police are searching surveillance video to help with the investigation. If you were a witness or know anything this case, you're asked to call police.

There's also a GoFundMe page set up to help with funeral costs and to raise the two young daughters left behind.
