Surge Of Home Break-Ins Reported In Folsom

FOLSOM, Calif. (CBS13) -- Authorities say the recent rash of home burglaries in Folsom may be due to the onset of the holiday shopping season, and police are warning residents to take extra care to secure their houses.

At least 10 break-ins have been reported across town since November 21, according to the Folsom Police Department.

All of the crimes took place in the daytime, and investigators suspect some of the thieves are striking while families are holiday shopping. When high-priced gifts go under the Christmas trees, home burglaries tend to rise, police say.

Jewelry and laptop computers were among the items reported stolen in the crime spree. No suspects have been identified.

The Folsom Police Department said homeowners should be sure to securely lock doors, windows and gates, and to make sure to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhood immediately.
