Storms Have Sacramento Residents Dealing With Problems Not Seen In 4 Years Of Drought

By Kelly Ryan

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento is rushing to remove leaves from area streets before flooding becomes a problem as rain continues to fall across the region.

After four dry winters, recent rains have been welcome, but they're also a reminder of things that haven't been in the forefront during the drought.

For the city of Sacramento, it's all claws on deck. In fact, street sweeping has been suspended for the week as all drivers are out hitting the straggling leaves that waited until this week's storm. The sudden drop means the claw will be working nonstop.

To put things into perspective, 700 tons of leaves were collected two weeks ago, and currently it's about 1,300 tons.

Resident Don Johnson was left raking in the rain, something he hasn't had to worry about in drought years.

"Lots of leave," he said. "It's these little chores that can often turn to big chores."

At Home Depot in West Sacramento, shoppers are coming in for weather-related projects and issues, especially with roof issues.
