State Treasurer Lockyer's Wife Returns To Work, Apologizes
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A Northern California politician married to California's treasurer has returned to work after spending time recovering from substance abuse and an alleged assault by an ex-boyfriend.
Alameda County Supervisor Nadia Lockyer appeared Tuesday at a board retreat in Oakland, more than a month after announcing she was undergoing treatment for chemical dependency and injuries from the Feb. 3 beating at a Newark motel.
Lockyer said in a prepared statement that she takes full responsibility for her mistakes, publicly apologized to loved ones and was glad to be back on her feet. She had missed several meetings while undergoing rehab.
The 40-year-old Lockyer, who is married to current state treasurer and former California attorney general Bill Lockyer, told police she was assaulted after meeting an ex-boyfriend at a motel where she was staying after having an argument with her husband.
The incident is under investigation.
