State Senator Sharon Runner Has Lung Transplants

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Antelope Valley Republican's office says Runner will be released from Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center in two or three weeks, and will initially resume work from home. In the meantime, her husband, George Runner, says she's up and walking Monday.

The senator has limited scleroderma, or CREST syndrome, an autoimmune condition that attacks the body's connective tissue.

In a statement, the legislator expressed gratitude to the family and friends of the anonymous donor.

Sharon Runner replaced her husband in the 17th Senate District a year ago because he was elected to the state Board of Equalization. The district includes parts of Kern, Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Ventura counties.
