Spepial Olympics: Mom Happy Torch Typo Fixed

ELK GROVE (CBS13) — Karissa is training for her big day to compete in the Special Olympics.

This year she'll help kick off the games by running with a commemorative torch to honor her best friend and biggest supporter, fallen Galt police officer Kevin Tonn.

Elk Grove Police bought the torch from a company in Oklahoma. It's heavy and has a commemorative engraving on it mentioning the "Spepial Olympics."

That's not a typo by us. That's what the engraving actually reads.

We put in a call to the company responsible for the untimely typo, but they never got back to us to explain the mistake.

Karissa's mom, Christa was surprised when she heard the mistake had been made. But Mom and daughter are more amused than disappointed.

"I hope it's corrected in time," she said, laughing. "I found the humor in it, we're all human."

The Elk Grove Police Department said they've been in touch with the company and a new one is on the way. It should be ready for the run on June 28.
