Spencer Stone To Receive Purple Heart
Spencer Stone, one of the local men who prevented the attack on a France-bound train last month, is going to receive the Purple Heart.
It was previously announced Airman First Class Stone would receive the Airman's Medal, the highest non-combat award for bravery the Air Force can bestow, but an Air Force spokesperson announced Tuesday he will also receive the Purple Heart in recognition of the injuries he received during the incident.
On August 21, Stone, along with Anthony Skarlatos, years-long friend Anthony Sadler and a British businessman, subdued the gunman as he moved through the train with an assault rifle strapped to his bare chest.
The gunman cut Stone on the hand, head and neck with a box cutter as the four tried to subdue him.
The four were awarded France's Legion of Honor Medal.
