Some Sacramento Residents Urged To Continue Boiling Drinking Water For Another Day
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento is warning some of its residents to boil their water after bacteria was found in a weekly sample, but some residents say they never heard the warning.
The water warning affects those in the Pocket area of Sacramento between Interstate 5 and the Sacramento River.
The city says it notified residents on Sunday night by phone through the reverse-911 system, but says not everyone has kept their phones updated in the system, so some didn't get the important message.
Ted Lagura found out through that phone call that he and his family should boil the water for a minute, then let it cool before using it. But just a few houses down, Eric Redmond hasn't heard about the order.
"I'm not doing anything at the moment -- drinking it, washing with it, brush my teeth with it," Redmond said.
After he was shown the city's advisory, he was frustrated he hadn't received a call.
"I hope me and my family are safe, but it does bother me," he said.
The advisory that warned bacteria had been found in the water sent residents into a water frenzy at this nearby Bel Air. with some wondering if the water could be a health hazard, especially for the immunocompromised.
The city is recommending people in the area continue boiling water at least until more results come in on Tuesday.
Two Starbucks restaurants in the Pocket are not serving beverages while the advisory remains in effect.
