Body Found After Arden Arcade Fire Ruled A Homicide

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The Sacramento County sheriff's coroner has ruled the cause of death of a body found inside an apartment Sunday was homicide.

"He sustained injuries that were really in no way self-inflicted," Deputy Jason Ramos said.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the 200 block of Selby Ranch Road in the Arden Arcade area after Sacramento Metro Fire personnel discovered a body inside an apartment where a fire had taken place. A resident called the fire department at 4:45 p.m.

"It's a really fine place. It would be unusual for something like this to happen," neighbor Tom Rudd said.

The victim was identified Monday as 60-year-old Stephen Sieck. The sheriff's department is asking the public for assistance in finding Sieck's vehicle, which was found to be missing from the apartment complex. It's described as a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe with New Mexico license plates and an Oakland Raiders emblem on the rear window.

Sieck, a war veteran, spent most of his life in Northern California but only moved into the apartment a few months ago after coming back from New Mexico.

The causes of the fire is still being determined. Although the exact time that the fire took place has not been determined, it is believed to have started earlier in the day and extinguished itself prior to the arrival of fire department personnel.

Anyone with information on the incident or the vehicle's wherabouts is asked to call the sheriff's Homicide Bureau at (916) 874-5115, Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP, or send a text message tip to 274637 (CRIMES) and enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
