Sheriff's Department Again Taking Over Law Enforcement In Isleton

ISLETON (CBS13) - The Sacramento County Sheriff's Department will take over law enforcement in the city of Isleton beginning on Saturday.

The sheriff's department announced Friday the county and the debt-ridden Delta city had entered into a contractual agreement for law enforcement services effective Sept. 1 through June 30, 2012.

Deputies will not be solely dedicated to the city, and their presence within city limits will be similar to other areas in the department's south bureau.

"The scope of the law enforcement services will be provided at a level commensurate with those services being provided to the unincorporated areas within Sacramento County," Lt. R.L. Davis said in a press release announcing the agreement.

In addition, the Sacramento Sheriff's Department Communications Bureau will assume all dispatch responsibilities for both emergency and non-emergency requests for service.

The Isleton Police Department has been beset by problems over the last several months, and City Manager Dan Hinrichs has shut it down previously and turned over law enforcement to the sheriff's department.

Hinrichs also put former Police Chief Steve Adams on leave and Officer Scott Kunz is accused of having sex in his patrol car with his mistress. He's also being investigated for selling department guns.
