School Of Pot Draws Students In Sacramento

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ― A cultivation school for aspiring medical marijuana growers is drawing students, despite the recent failure of Proposition 19 and federal law that still regards the drug as illegal.

The Cannabis Training University, held in a Sacramento hotel, cost $250 for two days of instruction into the world of growing marijuana legally -- "legal" in the eyes of the state, of course.

"There's always the threat that federal law can shut down dispensaries or stop growers, there's always that threat," said CTU owner Jeff Zorn.

The school focuses on clarifying the law for residents of each county who want to open medical marijuana dispensaries, grow pot or deliver it.

CalPotNews.com blogger Michael Green says many people incorrectly assume the laws have been settled.

"They really haven't," Green said. "When I worked in newspapers cannabis stories always got huge traffic. I think there's a natural curiosity people have about cannabis."

Seminars like CTU's program area a sign that California's marijuana culture is starting to conform to the law, Green added.

CTU is also planning an online cannabis training school for next year.
