School District Taking Precautions After Threat Against Students
NEVADA CITY (CBS13) – Nevada City School District officials warned parents Wednesday that they are stepping up security after receiving reports of a vague threat against female students.
Superintendent Roxanne Gilpatric said she sent the voicemail to at least 1000 parents of district students after 26-year-old Andrew Dickinson made the threat to his therapist, who reported it to authorities as required by law.
Dickinson, a former student in the district, is now in custody on a psychiatric hold.
Medical privacy laws prevent details of the threat from being released, but Gilpatric said she felt it was important to notify parents that school officials are taking precautions. Gilpatric was principal of Bridgestreet School in Yuba City when one of her students, 8-year-old Michael Lyons, was abducted and murdered.
"The Michael Lyons case definitely plays into it, because I do know it can happen," she said.
School officials said they will keep parents informed of any new developments.
