Sacramento Terror Suspect Transferred To Chicago For New Indictment

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The Sacramento man facing terror-related charges has been transferred to Chicago.

Aws Mohammed Younis Al-Jayab's lawyer Benjamin D. Galloway confirmed that his client has been transferred to face a new indictment, but no new charges.

"The charge there stems from the same brief overseas trip more than two years ago which is the subject of the Sacramento false statements charge," Galloway said in a statement on Friday.

Galloway notes that in both the Sacramento and Chicago indictments, prosecutors are not arguing that Al-Jayab did anything to threaten harm Americans or American interests.

Al-Jayab was arrested in Sacramento in early January on a charge he lied to federal investigators about traveling to Syria to fight the government.

In the criminal complaint against Al-Jayab, federal investigators claim he talked about joining ISIS while in Syria.

Al-Jayab lived in a second-story apartment in Sacramento's Arden Arcade area with relative, neighbors said.
