Sacramento Smart Meters Should Give Residents A Better Idea Of Usage
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — As water districts look for ways to save, many are turning to smart meters, with many being installed in the Sacramento area.
The city plans to have all of the meters installed by 2020.
Sidewalk construction can be a real headache for someone hoping for an afternoon nap, but for Normal Smith, he's relieved because what's going in the ground will help him sleep easier in the long run.
Smith is glad the city is finally getting smarter with new smart water meters that will track your every water move.
The technology can detect leaks in your home before you know about it. Traditional water meters just generate bills based on monthly readings, but smart meters collect water readings in real time every hour.
With that added information, residents can do more about it. State conservation managers have seen homeowners use 80 fewer gallons a day in some areas.
