Sacramento Schools Briefly On Lockdown As Suspect In ATF Raid Opens Fire
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Three Sacramento schools were briefly placed on lockdown as law enforcement and a suspect clashed, though police aren't saying what the investigation was about.
More than 10 hours later, the crime-scene tape remains after what was supposed to be an arrest and search warrant. Instead it turned into a gun battle and the suspect was wounded.
"When I heard the first boom, it was kind of something to worry about and then I heard the following gunshots right after," said Izac Besped.
He was one of dozens of neighbors greeted with the sound of a flash-bang grenade and gunfire as members of the ATF and local law enforcement moved in on an armed suspect.
A spokeswoman says no ATF agents were injured.
Meanwhile, three nearby schools were placed on lockdown while agents secured the scene.
Agents say they were going to serve a search warrant and arrest a suspect at the home, though didn't specify why, citing an ongoing investigation.
Woodland Police who were at the scene confirmed the case was theirs. A release sent later in the evening said nine arrests were made across the region as part of an anti-gang operation.
Nearby schools were only on lockdown for about 15 minutes.
