Sacramento Police Searching For Suspect In Deadly Discovery Park Assault
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — Sacramento police are searching for a suspect in a fatal assault at Discovery Park during a concert on Sunday.
"There was some sort of confrontation that took place between the suspect and the victim in the case," said Officer Matthew McPhail, a Sacramento Police Department spokesperson.
The suspect is described as a black male adult in his early to mid 20s, standing about 5'10" and weighing 175 pounds with an athletic build.
He was also seen with an associate who police say was present during the assault.
At 5:42 p.m. on Sunday, Sacramento firefighters were flagged down after the confrontation. The relationship between two men is still unknown.
"This individual lost his life over something that is very probably very petty in retrospect," McPhail said.
The 31-year-old victim was rushed to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
CBS13 has learned the identity of the victim, but friends say his whole family has not been notified, so we chose not to release his name.
A friend said he was an awesome dad and great co-worker and are shocked to hear the news.
If you recognize the suspect or his associate or have any other information, you can call Sacramento Police at 916-264-5472. Callers can remain anonymous and may eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
"Sometimes even the smallest detail is the piece of information that we need in order to break a case like this," McPhail said.
