Sacramento Police Receive Donated Helicopter
RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) - The Sacramento Police Department has a new addition to its fleet of helicopters.
The "new" helicopter was actually built in 1974. It was donated to Sacrament police by the sheriff's office in Yamhill County, Oregon. They dissolved their helicopter program and by law couldn't sell it, so they donated it.
It increases the Sacramento fleet to three. They say it will extend the life of all the choppers. All three are former military choppers.
Police say the donated chopper needs about a month of work and should be flying soon thereafter. They drove up to the Portland area to pick it up and arrived home with it late Wednesday night.
