Suspect In Downtown Sacramento Police Pursuit Surrenders After Cigarette

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — After taking a moment to finish a phone call and her cigarette, a suspect has surrendered after a pursuit in downtown Sacramento.

The woman surrendered at 15th and X streets with her wheels were destroyed and her SUV stalled in the street. But first, the petty theft suspect stopped to finish a phone call and her cigarette before laying down on the street.

The pursuit began after a robbery at a North Sacramento drug store.

During the pursuit, the police department has reported the woman hit three patrol cars, setting off an airbag in one of them. Speeds reached up to 50 mph. Police were able to use a spike strip to eventually stop the suspect.

"It's a good resolve as far as nobody was injured, no officers were injured, and no one in the community was injured," said Sacramento Police spokeswoman Michelle Gigante.
