Sacramento Man Pleads Guilty In Massive Counterfeit Movie Ring

FRESNO (CBS13) – A Sacramento-area man has plead guilty today in connection with a $2 million counterfeit media ring.

Eleazar Gomez Ortiz, also known as Eleazar Ortiz Gomez, pleaded guilty to commit criminal copyright infringement and traffic in counterfeit labels, illicit labels and counterfeit documentation and packaging.

Eleazer was arrested in November of 2010 by the Sacramento Valley Hi-Tech Crimes Task Force, in connection with other local and federal agencies.

According to the plea agreement, Gomez admitted to buying several thousand counterfeit music CDs and movie DVDs from a warehouse in San Jose.

Gomez, along with co-conspirators, then sold them at the Galt flea market and other area flea markets. He also converted his garage to a music and video store complete with aisles and shelving.

Gomez is scheduled to be sentenced in the case in January of 2012. He faces a maximum of five years in prison.

Charges are pending against six other defendants in the case.
