Sacramento Hmong Community Mourns Four Dead After Home Invasion
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — A community is in mourning as police discover the aftermath of a shootout that would leave four people, including the suspected gunman, dead.
"Everybody's, you know, sad and they just want information of what happened and why," said Lu Vang, victim's nephew. "Everybody just have no clue, information about it."
Police say around 10:30 p.m. last night, a welcomed guest in the home opened fire on four people inside, including two residents of the house, a Hmong couple in their fifties.
Family members have identified them as Xai Vang Yang and Lia Vang Yang. The couple would die at the scene along with a male house guest, while a fourth male victim would be taken to a hospital in critical condition.
"We are pretty confident that this is not a random act and that gang members, or gang involvement is part of this investigation," said Michelle Gigante, Sacramento Police Department.
"They don't deserve it, they're elderly person, they're just quiet persons, stay home only," said Lu.
As the day wore on, more and more members of the Vang Yang family and the Hmong community gathered just outside the crime scene. The couple is said to have been spiritual leaders and counselors.
"We are mad and we want to know why they kill them," said Der Lee, victim's niece.
Tonight police say they're still trying to get those answers.
"They might be at the wrong place at the wrong time," said Gigante.
