SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - If mail-in ballot voting is any indication of how passionate Sacramento County voters are this election day, we could likely see a record number of votes cast.
According to a statement from Sacramento County, just after noon on Tuesday, voters had cast 48,705 ballots alone at the county's vote by mail drop-off sites, a 78 percent increase over 2012 when 27,000 ballots were dropped off.

This year's number shatters the number of votes cast through the drop boxes in 2010, a paltry 304.
The county credits its website, social media and the news media for helping get the word out about drop boxes.
Voters cast a total of 522,045 votes in Sacramento County during the 2012 presidential election.
