SACRAMENTO — Discussions to build a bridge connecting downtown Sacramento to south Natomas took another step forward on Tuesday.

A special meeting was held by the city to discuss several options that included allowing vehicles on the bridge.

The council voted to adopt that provision, which would allow all forms of traffic on the bridge. The only no vote was cast by Councilmember Lisa Kaplan, who has pushed back on the idea of having civilian vehicles use it.

Back in mid-January, an advisory committee unanimously voted to recommend that the city council shouldn't consider allowing cars on the proposed bridge over the American River.

If built, this would be the first new bridge built in Sacramento in half a century.
