Sacramento Chooses Developer For New Arena
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – City officials have given the green light for a developer to quickly come up with the best plan to build a new home for the Sacramento Kings.
The Sacramento City Council unanimously voted Tuesday evening for David Taylor to begin a 90-day assessment of the possible routes to a new arena.
With the Maloof family reportedly considering the possibility of moving the Kings to a different city, there may not be much time to waste. If the NBA team doesn't stay put, there may not be enough of push to get the new arena built.
"It's possible, but the odds are just very stacked against it," Taylor said.
Taylor, working with Colorado-based Icon Venue Group, will try to work with the Maloofs to create a plan that will keep the Kings in town.
All options, including some of the oft-discussed possibilities like building in the Sacramento Railyards or in Natomas, will be considered, Taylor said. The final proposal will likely include some measure of public funding.
Taylor has previously been involved in building the Sacramento City Hall and the US Bank building in downtown.
