Sacramento Businesses Ring In New Year With Record Profits
OLD SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — While revelers rang in the new year with a bang, Old Sacramento businesses were ringing up record profits.
"It was a record-breaking night for us," said Stage Nine Entertainment Store's Matt Kemp. "Our store goals were at least doubled what we expected from last year."
"It was the best turnout we've ever had," said Dean Huitrado of Railroad Fish & Chips.
Business after business CBS13 talked to told us they saw a significant increase in New Year's crowds. Cars trying to reach downtown were backed up on Interstate 5 as parking quickly ran out.
Laila Maalouf was still cleaning her restaurant Monday after getting crowds she never expected when compared to past years.
"Double," she said of business Saturday night.
Business was on a roll in midtown Sacramento as well.
"Our reservations were packed," said Justin Childs at Monsoon Bar and Grill.
So why were so many people ringing in the new year in downtown Sacramento this year?
"With no rain and perfect weather it was great," Kemp said.
Some businesses were thanking a lack of snow in the Sierra for keeping revelers parked in Sacramento.
"That had to have a big effect because I know a lot of people that didn't go up there," Huitrado said.
