S.F. Lawyer Sentenced In Fraud Over Autistic Son's Care
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — An attorney convicted of bilking the San Francisco school district, his former law firm and an insurer of about $400,000 for his autistic son's treatment has been sentenced to a year in jail.
A San Francisco judge issued the sentence against 44-year-old Jonathan Dickstein on Tuesday over the objections of prosecutors, who said it was too lenient.
Dickstein and his wife, 44-year-old Barclay Lynn, had pleaded guilty to 31 fraud and other charges.
Prosecutors say the couple created a dummy company and used it to double-bill the district and insurers for special education services for their son between 2006 and 2008. The couple was also accused of defrauding the law firm where Dickstein served as a partner.
Lynn is serving a sentence of five years probation.
