Woman Hosts Yard Sale To Raise Money For Brother's Organ Transplant Surgeries
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - A Roseville man is living each day to its fullest after learning he needs a heart and double lung transplant to stay alive.
"My condition is pulmonary hypertension, otherwise known as Eisenmenger's," said David Rosh.
That and a hole in his heart Rosh was diagnosed 6 years ago.
News of Ridge needing a heart and double lung transplant rocked his family and friends.
"What can I do to help? That was the first thing," said one woman.
Rosh's sister made it easy, by hosting a charity garage sale in Roseville.
"I bought an end table, rugs, CDs and books," said a customer.
Her goal was to raise $15,000 for uninsured expenses for her brother. This garage sale was one way to reach out.
"He'll die if he doesn't have a double lung transplant," said Rosh's sister, Sue Howton.
Doctors say his life expectancy without the transplant is between three and five years.
"I guess my thing is with all the negativity in the world there are so many people, complete strangers, who have donated and their time and it's overwhelming," said Howton.
All of the yard sale items were donated by their community.
"This is probably 20 truckloads of things that have come throughout the week from people I don't even know," said Howton.
The outpouring of support has touched Rosh and everyone in his circle.
This journey required Rosh to lose 60 pounds to make him eligible for the transplant. Now he's enjoying his quality of life while he can with the help of medicine and oxygen, hoping for a miracle sooner than later.
"It's an incredible journey and we want to thank everyone for their help," said Rosh.
A nonprofit group is now helping with his fundraising campaign.
Rosh has an 80 percent chance of surviving the surgery and leading a normal life afterwards.
