Shave your head at this Roseville event to help raise money to fight child cancer

ROSEVILLE — If you're due for a haircut, what about taking a little extra off and raising some money for a very special cause?

The St. Balderick's Shave Party is this weekend and not only does it raise money, but it is also a huge sign of support.

You've probably seen the event — person after person shaving their head, also known as "making a bald statement," said Jessica Alonso, the executive director of Keaton's Chil Cancer Alliance.

Alonso said the alliance is partnering with the St. Balderick's Foundation and Supercuts to put on this year's event. Money goes towards fighting childhood cancer.

"Part of this movement is to stand in solidarity with children who many of course don't have a choice but to lose their hair," Alonso said.

Part of the money goes to the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center. Childhood cancer only makes up about 1% of cancer cases nationwide, but that makes the fight for funding hard. That said, they are making progress.

"Nowadays we are at about 84% [of] all children diagnosed with pediatric cancer will survive," said Dr. Marcio Malogolowkin with UC Davis Health."

But they're not done yet, and they need your help. The event is this Saturday at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville.
