Roseville Dancer Heads To World Irish Dancing Championships

ROSEVILLE (CBS13) - A Roseville girl is headed to the World Irish Dancing Championships in Boston for the first time.

Emily Watson, 12, is part of the O'Sullivan Academy of Irish Dance. Three years ago, she decided this jig is what she was going to do.

"I was watching a class and that's what I really wanted to do. We took classes and I have been dancing ever since," she said.

She enjoys the moves, but wasn't always a big fan of the fancy hair and sparkly clothes.

"I used to not but I do now," Watson said of the clothes and make up.

This specialized dance has become a major part of her life.

"She's putting in 10 hours a week," said teacher Melissa O'Sullivan.

That practice has paid off. She's been recognized at the regional level, and now is headed to Boston to compete with the very best.

"It really is the top 5 percent of the world coming to this," said O'Sullivan.

Watson will be doing three dances, and says she's a bit nervous about some things.

"The other competitors because they're really good," she said.

But, there is a lot of excitement.

"The expectation is to dance your very best dance, the dances of your life," said O'Sullivan.

Everyone invited is a winner, but the champion will walk away with some bragging rights.

"If you win the world championship, you're a world champion and that can never be taken away," said O'Sullivan.

Watson is not only cute, smart and a standout dancer, but she's honest too.

"I'm hoping for really good results. I don't know how I'm going to do. I just hope I don't place last," she said.

Watson leaves next week for Boston.
