Ripon Police Bust Juvenile Bike Theft Ring

RIPON (CBS13) – Police in Ripon have broken up a bike theft ring, taking four juvenile suspects into custody, the youngest just 10-years-old.

Officers say the 10-year-old, two 13-year-olds, and a 14-year old weren't taking the bikes for personal use. The juvenile suspects were stripping and repainting the bikes to be sold.

The boys would meet and go out "bike jacking" at night, police say.

Officers recovered eight stolen bikes worth more than $1,350.

The juveniles have been charged with theft and receiving known stolen property, which can be a felony. The suspects were cited and released to their parents.

Four of the stolen bikes have been returned to their owners. If you live in Ripon, and have been a victim of bicycle theft in the last two months, you are asked to call the Ripon Police Department at 209-599-2102.
