Restraining Order Issued Against Former Placerville Mayor

PLACERVILLE (CBS13) -- It's been a bad week for Placerville's former mayor. First, a grand jury indicted him. And now his ex-wife has accused him of stalking.

CBS13 has learned that a judge issued a temporary restraining earlier this month. When we called the David Machado to get some answers Tuesday night, he hung up on us.

His political life already in question, now so is his personal life. Machado's divorce just finalized last month now there's a restraining order and allegations that the former mayor stalked his ex-wife.

"Well, I'm really surprised to hear that," Placerville resident Sharon Coleman.

The restraining order claims Machado sent his ex several harassing e-mails and text messages on Oct. 6 and she "repeatedly asked him" to stop.

The court documents even bring in the ex-wife's boss. He claims Machado wrote an inappropriate post about his ex on Facebook and goes on to say Machado admitted to being in his ex's house and making photocopies of her personal journals.

According to the manager, Machado also admitted to watching her and said he was going to e-mail the employer and "do everything he could to get her fired."

"I don't know what to say. I'm speechless. I did not vote for him," another Placerville resident, Cathy Hook, said. :06

The ex-wife claims Machado followed her to an appointment and to a friend's house. She also claims Machado took off her door handle to make duplicate keys so he could sneak into her house and go through her computer.

"Well, it's sad, it's sad that she has to do that," Juliana Karu of Placerville said.

More disturbing allegations against the man people in Placerville called their mayor.

Machedo's attorney says says his client has been depressed over his legal matters and personal life. Machedo's ex-wife told CBS13 she's already said everything she needed to say with the restraining order.

Machado's criminal indictment stems from a complaint filed by the El Dorado County District Attorney's Office alleging the displaced mayor committed perjury and conspiracy when he bought property in the Placerville Redevelopment Area and then tried to conceal evidence of his involvement.

His next court date on the restraining order is scheduled for December.
