UPDATE: Police Investigate Packages Left At Modesto Wells Fargo
MODESTO (CBS13) — Police were called out to a Wells Fargo Bank in Modesto after employees found two boxes left inside, but they turned out to be harmless.
Police say an elderly man walked into the bank at 3424 Dale Road late Friday morning. When a teller asked the man what he was doing and if she could help, he reportedly told her he had some packages he needed to drop off. She asked who they were for but he didn't respond. Instead, he set the packages down on a chair and walked out of door.
Wells Fargo employees took the boxes to a parking lot next door and called police. The Stanislaus County sheriff's bomb squad was sent out to investigate.
The bomb squad used a robot to photograph the boxes and a knife to rip them apart.
Inside were about a dozen rolls of ATM receipt papers.
