Police Identify Suspect In Fake Contractor Burglaries
SACRAMENTO – Sacramento Police have a lead on a gang of thieves who have been targeting elderly people by pretending to be plumbers or contractors.
Police have identified 33-year-old Bobby John as one of the suspects of a group that may be responsible for as many as 12 burglaries. Police say one suspect in the gang poses as a plumber or contractor and uses a ruse to get the victims into their backyard while the other suspects enter the home and steal items.
Police identified Bobby John after he allegedly posed as a contractor and told the homeowner there was a water leak in the backyard. Once in the backyard, the homeowner remembered reading about the scam and went back into his home. He saw three suspects running away with his property and into a white pick up truck.
From that information, detectives identified John as one of the suspects. He is described as a white man, 5'7", 180 lbs, brown hair, hazel eyes and is currently on non-revocable parole. At this time, Bobby John is wanted for one burglary but investigators are looking into his possible involvement in the other eleven similar burglaries.
The Sacramento Police Department is asking anyone with information about John or the crime to contact Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357) or text in a tip to 274637 (CRIMES). Enter SACTIP followed by the tip information. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
