Police: 66-Year-Old Man Assaulted Officers Before Death By Taser
BURBANK, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a 66-year-old man who died after Burbank police stunned him with a Taser had physically assaulted officers when they responded to a call from his former daughter-in-law.
Sgt. Claudio Losacco says the woman called police Tuesday to report that Thomas Binkley had threatened her life.
Losacco says when officers arrived at a suburban home Binkley became verbally confrontational and then physically attacked them. One officer discharged his Taser, causing Binkley to collapse.
That's when Binkley's 65-year-old brother Steve came to the door armed with a handgun and threatened police before barricading himself inside.
Thomas Binkley died at the scene. An autopsy is planned.
Steve Binkley surrendered after 40 minutes and was arrested on suspicion of threatening an officer. He's due in court Friday. It wasn't known if he has an attorney.
